The following is the current progress of Leochem’s research and development of its PVC stabilizers.
In US and Europe, pollution-free organotin stabilizers are being used for PVC heat stabilizers. In Korea, starting from rigid PVC, building materials, floor finishing materials, wallpapers, and wires to cable insulation, lead-containing stabilizers are widely being used. Producing environmental-friendly non-toxic natural products is not a difficult technology to do, but what is being the matter is that the alloys to replace lead are all costly. That is why we encountering a situation where there aren’t appropriate inexpensive alloys that can replace lead in intensity experiments.
Leochem Co., Ltd. has analyzed the needs of the market for the past few years and has been testing products that is capable of withstanding strong impact with physical properties that are similar to lead through experiments of damage protection materials of various physical properties. Furthermore we are trying to come up with products without a change in the price while replacing the powder type product group that has bad workability, with Bead type product group.
Leochem’s future task is the recycle technology that selects and recycles PVC resins, which will be our action to the regulation that deals with the recycling of the wastes. When it comes to dioxin-related proble-ms, just a small amount of chlorine gas contained in the atmosphere is considered highly dangerous.
A way to minimize the amount of dioxin produced in incineration is to hold the combustion gas for 2 seconds in a high temperature of more than 800℃ and cool it down to 200℃. Many countries have designated phthalate-based plasticizers as a subs-tance with suspected environmental hormone.
Opinions about PVC and dioxin are still conflicting among scholars. Leochem Co., Ltd., believing that in order to jump up to a global enterprise, there must be an accurate study done on whether phthalate-based plasticizers work as environmental hormone or is harmless, is continuing a consistent research on the matter. Leochem Co., Ltd. is exerting good efforts for the development of non-toxic plasticizers that are harmless to human body.
