What is the global production amount of plastic?

Since the first PVC resin was produced in Korea by a company named Dae han plastic Co., Ltd., in 1966, Korea developed to a producer of various plastics. As Korea entered an industrialized society (1985), the demand for plastic rose steeply, and the total production level of plastic of the world then was 7670 tons. However as the year entered the 21st century and there appeared an explosive increase in the number of plastic producers, the total production was tallied to be 260 million tons in 2007.  _Plastic World Alliance

 

Who’s the largest producer of plastic?

In 1988 US produced 29.9 million tons of plastic, 30% of the world’s total production, and as it produced 49.8 million tons in 2005 US became the largest producer of plastic. Meanwhile Korea had taken the place of the world’s 4th largest plastic producer since 1996, but at present, Korea is keeping the 5th place due to China’s increasing produ-ctivity. China is seen to be the largest producer of the world in the future. Then what would be the recent plastic production amount of the world? According to a research in 2009, it has been tallied closely to that of 2007, and has been recorded as roughly 250 million tons. If you divide this by the assumed world population of 6 billion, you arrive at a calculation that an individual’s yearly plastic consumption is about 42kg. It has been researched that the plastic consumption per person of US is 177kg and of Korea is 108kg.
